BABA-COOL: Paris-based Australian stylist Catherine Baba, a well-known and much-photographed personality on the Paris fashion scene, has designed a "theatrical," baroque-style jewelry collection for French pâte de verre (poured-glass) couture jewelry specialist Maison Gripoix. It is to be unveiled on March 3 at historic Paris restaurant Lapérouse.
Inspired by the neo-romantic period, with Oscar Wilde, Aubrey Beardsley, René Lalique and Sarah Bernhardt among references, items include peacock earrings; a Venus cuff with an incorporated powder press; a Phoenix belt that can be worn as a necklace; and a dragon pendant in different blue tones with accents of emerald and jade. The latter design was inspired by a Twenties Bakelite piece from Baba’s personal collection. Sizes span small, medium and "imposing." Baba said she also wanted to honor female gods, dedicating the line’s Lily bracelet to the Hindu deity Lakshmi, for instance. “I wanted to cover all of the goddesses of love, fortune and everything divine,” she purred.
