FORTY FIVE TEN GIVES BIRTH: Seeking to capture a broader clientele, Forty Five Ten last week debuted Five and Ten, a relaxed fashion and gift boutique at Highland Park Village. “A lot of things that are very cool and casual need traffic to sell in a meaningful way,” said co-owner Brian Bolke, noting the main store is a destination. At Forty Five Ten, “it’s easier for us to sell one $6,000 dress than six $1,000 items,” he added. Five and Ten is tucked into 700 square feet of selling space with equivalent storage upstairs, offering preppie-with-a-twist styles aimed squarely at the conservative Highland Park crowd. Bolke shifted Thakoon Addition, basics from The Row, Boy by Band of Outsiders and Aloha Rag into the new shop, freeing up space in the flagship for home goods. Five and Ten also highlights J Brand’s new sportswear, Proenza Schouler denim, T-shirts and handbags, shoes by Lanvin, MM6 and Costume National, Barton Perreira sunglasses, Michael Bastian and Kenzo. Fragrance, books and gifts round out the mix, and a retro Abici bike bolted out front is available by special order. Bolke expects to reap $1.4 million in first-year sales.
